MAPS (Microphthalmia Anophthalmia Parent Support) is a parent to parent network offering support to families raising children with microphthalmia (born with small eyes) and/or anophthalmia (born without eyes). Our goals are:
To communicate with and support families raising children born with microphthalmia and/or anophthalmia. We do this via our website, e-mail, and by phone. Support ranges from making emotional connections to sharing community resources to discussing available medical and educational interventions.
To empower families by sharing our knowledge and experiences. MAPS was created by parents and is run by parents. We do not make medical or educational recommendations – we simply share what options have been provided to our children and discuss the pros and cons of possible choices. We hope our resources will empower families to make optimal decisions leading to the development of independent, competent children enjoying a life filled with success and accomplishment.
